Most of the State of New Mexico is extremely dry. Some forests are closed. Not so in the Jemez. We have been very fortunate here in the Jemez Mountains. After a very dry winter, April was somewhat moist.
The forest is open with no fire restrictions as of today. That could change soon. Stay tuned to JemezCentral.com for the latest conditions.
Fenton Lake State Park is open for camping and fishing but, unlike the Santa Fe National Forest, fire restrictions are in place. No campfires or charcoal allowed. Propane stoves and grills are ok.
All this being said….the forest is very dry and extreme caution is advised.
