Last Updated: June 5, 2025

The Guadalupe Box

The stocking truck will expand stocking operations throughout the spring.

The upper reaches of the East Fork, Rio San Antonio, and Rio Cebolla are generally ice-free and, because of lack of snow, will have virtually no run-off. This year, fish early and often.

You can find information about specific Jemez area waters below. Also, if you have info to add, please send it to: fishingreport@jemezcentral.com.

All photos in this report are of summertime conditions unless otherwise noted.

Jemez River

Fishing Report June 5, 2025…Rating… (Fair).

The Jemez River is a wonderful early summertime fishery, however the water is pretty low right now and warming, so there might be not be anymore stocking by NMDGF until we begin our cooling monsoon rains. Salmon eggs and worms are the go-to for the bait fishers and sub-surface flies drifted slowly will be effective for the fly-guys. There is certainly some top water action as well. Terrestrials like a stimulator or hopper are very effective as well.

The East Fork of the Jemez River is in great shape right now and fishing for the resident brown trout is beginning to pick up. The very lower portion just above its confluence with the Jemez River at Battleship Rock is also a good bet this time of year.

Rio San Antonio is running low and clear but the fishing is still quite good. Much of the river is not stocked, and the resident population of Brown Trout are plentiful and active.

Fishing Update June 5, 2025…Rating…(Recently Stocked)

Fenton Lake State Park is open for day use from 6 am to 9:00 pm every day. The lake is in good shape and the fishing has been very good for the stocked rainbows and the occasional brown or cutthroat trout. Recent stockings have included some larger fish.

 Rio Guadalupe

The Guadalupe Box

FR 376 is now open through Gilman Tunnels (May 23rd) providing better access to this wonderful fishery. Spring run-off has come and gone and the river is in great shape right now. There are lots of hungry browns awaiting your attention.

This gem of a river is being managed as a brown trout fishery so you will not see the stocking truck along this wild river.

Fishing Update June 5, 2025 (Rating…Good)

Rio de Las Vacas has lost a lot of volume, but has been recently stocked (May 21st) and should provide some good fishing opportunities for the stockers and plentiful resident brown trout population.

Rio Cebolla is in great shape right now, making for improved fishing opportunities. This little creek has been recently stocked, and combined with an excellent population of resident brown trout, there should be plenty of fish to tighten your lines.

San Gregorio Lake

San Gregorio Lake
San Gregorio Lake

This high-altitude lake is accessed by a beautiful one-mile hike during the summer months and a wintertime adventure with snowshoes or skis. San Gregorio is no longer part of the stocking rotation because of its wilderness status. The beautiful hike is a great option, catching fish…not so much. However, the little creeks that are part of the San Pedro Parks Wilderness, are full of resident, self-sustained populations Brown Trout and Rio Grande Cutthroats

Fishing The Jemez

Cute Catch

Children Are Welcome!

The Jemez is a great place to bring your young children to fish.  They can be successful fishing anywhere in the Jemez, but for those that are 11 yr and younger, the Kid’s Pond at the hatchery is a great place for youngsters.  Stop in at Amanda’s Jemez Mountain Country Store for any supplies or snacks that you might need. Make sure you take proper precautions with your children around the water.  Early Spring can often bring high water and strong currents, which can be a danger for kids and adults alike.
