San Gregorio Reservoir Jemez Mountains New Mexico

San Gregorio Reservoir

San Gregorio Lake is a thirty acre lake located about a mile within the San Pedro Park Wilderness boundary.

No motorized vehicles are allowed within the Wilderness, so access is limited to foot or horseback.

Because of its high altitude and lack of depth there is usually a winter kill every year at San Gregorio.  Thus no holdover trout.

Even with limited fishing opportunities, San Gregorio is a wonderful hiking experience, and some of the smaller headwaters such as the Penas Negras and the Las Vacas hold nice populations of Browns, Rainbows and Rio Grande Cutthroats.

A hike into San Gregorio is worth the effort because of its beauty and isolation.
