Stage two fire restrictions will go into place on Friday June 10th. This means that no campfires or charcoal will be allowed, even within Forest Service campgrounds. More details on Friday.

Jemez Falls Campground was closed on Monday May30th due to a small fire that was controlled quickly. The campground remains closed as of Tuesday June 7th. Plans are to reopen by this weekend, but I can’t say for sure.
Saturday, June 4th is free fishing day throughout New Mexico. No license is required for anyone. Resident, non-resident, old, young, male, female. Cool. Come on up and take advantage.
Although there were two small fires in the Jemez this past week, both were contained quickly. Forest Road 376 to the North of Hwy 126 is scheduled to open on June 1st. The gate has been closed and locked for the Winter and is opened historically on the first of June. This allows access to the San Antonio Hot Springs via a road….although an extremely rough one.
The three day weekend is over and a good one it was. Other than the persistant wind and a couple of small fires, the weekend was spectacular. The La Cueva Picnic Area is now open. The opening of this beautiful picnic area was delayed for about three weeks. The gate was unlocked and opened on 5/24/11. Enjoy.
The NM Dept of Game and Fish is doing their best to provide a great fishing experience this weekend. The stocking truck was busy again today….Wed 5/25/11. Fenton Lake….450 Rainbows. Jemez River….960 Rainbows. Rio de Las Vacas….700 Rainbows. Kid’s Pond….140 Rainbows.
If you are bringing a trailer or RV to the Jemez this weekend….be sure and fill your water tanks before you come up. The water at the campgrounds has yet to be been turned on. There are no options to fill your tanks here.
