SPRING RUN-OFF IN THE JEMEZ 2025…has already come and gone. This took place back in November of 2024. Sadly, this year’s snowpack is virtually non-existent. Other than the two feet we received in early November, snowfall this winter has been, to put it mildly, sparse.
What does this mean?

Unless we get copious amounts of moisture during March and April, it’s going to be a tough summer. My advice is to get your fishing in early this spring as both the lake and streams will be too low, too warm…too early, making for difficult stocking conditions. This, combined with likely fire restrictions and possible closures, recreating in the Jemez will be a challenge.
Fenton Lake is free of ice, has been stocked recently and the fishing is excellent. The Kid’s pond at the hatchery is totally free of ice and provides a great opportunity for those youngsters 11 years and younger. Streams in the area are also losing their ice and fishing will be good through April.
Camping opportunities will be very limited in the near future as forest roads will remain closed through the middle of April and forest service campgrounds will not open until mid-May.
My advice is to come on up early and often…and hope and pray for a wet spring.
